Angelina has been recognized for many humanitarian acts. She has fought for human rights, women's rights, supports child immigration and child education, conservation and community development, and also supports United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Out of all the humanitarian work Angelina has done, she gets the most recognition for being involved with the organization, United High Commissioner for Refugees.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
Angelina had witnessed her first humanitarian occurance while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) in Cambodia. She later credited her experience giving her a better understanding of the world and when she returned home she contacted the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for more information. To learn about the conditions in troubled areas, she visited refugee camps around the world. Her first field visit was in February in 2001, she went on an eighteen-day visit to Sierra Leone and Tanzania, two countries in Africa. Months later Angelina returned to Cambodia for two weeks, where she then donated one million dollars to UNHCR, the largest donation the organization has ever recieved. Later on August 27, 2001, Angelina was named a UNHCR Goodwill Embassador at their headquarters in Geneva.
Over the next ten years, Angelina went on over fourty field missions. In 2002, when Angelina asked what she had hoped to accomplish, she stated that she wanted people to be aware of these people living in the camps. She also said that they should be notified for what they have survived and they should not be looked down on. Angelina's 2001-2002 visits were noted in her book, Notes From My Travels, that was pubished in October of 2003.
Over the course of Angelina's missions, she had visited war zones and met with U.S. troops and other national forces. To help her traveling, in 2004, Angelina started taking flying lessons. Angelina now has a private pilot license and owns a Cirrus SR22 and Cessna 208 Caravan single-engine craft.
On April 27, 2012 Angelina was promoted to Special Envoy to High Commissioner Antonio Guterres. In this position she had to represent Guterres and UNHCR at the diplomatic level. She made her first visit as a Special Envoy to Ecudor where she met Columbian refugees and went with Guterres on a week-long tour to Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraq. Since then, Angelina has gone on many of filed missions to meet with refugees around the world.

Recognition
Angelina has recieved a variety of recognition for her humanitarian work. In August 2002, she recieved the Humanitarian Award from the Church World Service's Immigration and Refugee Program. In October 2003, she won the Citizen of the World Award by the United Nations Correspondents Association. In October 2005, she was awarded the Global Humanitarian Award by the UNA-USA. In November 2007, she recieved the Freedom Award from the International Rescue Committee. And in October 2011, Antonio Guterres presented Angelina with a gold pin for being a long-serving staff member, in recognition as her years of being a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
